This is Miss Hayden's last week here at Lakeview Jr. High.  We wish her well as she graduates from Elmhurst College and enters her career in Music Education.  

6th Grade: Instruments of the Orchestra
This week, the 6th grade student will finish their unit on the Instruments of the Orchestra.  They will be composing music using our new software MixCraft 6 and using classroom percussion instruments. 

7th Grade: A Cappella Music
This week, the 7th grade students will be learning about the history of A Cappella music (singing without instrumental sound.)  They will get to compose A Cappella music using a website called Incredibox.  Later in the week, they will compose their own vocal loops and perform A Cappella for the class in groups. 

8th Grade: Blues Music
Last week, the students created their own Blues Combo in class using the 12 Bar Blues Form.  This week, they will research a famous Blues Musician in pairs and create a fake "Facebook" page (in the form of a poster) about their musician.

Summer Enrichment- Sign Up Today

DRAMA

This drama course is for students interested in theater arts.  In the class, the students will learn improvisational acting techniques, to follow and write their own script, blocking and choreography tips and performance techniques in an educational setting. 



CHOIR

GRADES:  4-7

SESSION:  II 

The purpose / focus of this choir is to provide the students of Lakeview Jr. High School with an opportunity to learn proper vocal technique and develop singing talents / skills while performing in a traditional choral setting.  The students will perform the pieces they learn on the last day of class.  Parents are welcome to attend the final performance! 

LAKEVIEW CHEERLEADING             
TEACHER:  Mrs. Rickert
GRADES:  5-7

SESSION:  III 

This cheer and dance course is designed for students who will be attending Lakeview Jr High for the 2013-2014 school year.  In this class, we will cover cheers, chants, performance skills, dance moves, and choreographed routines in a group dynamic.  This is a great course for students interested in preparing to try-out for one of Lakeview’s 3 cheerleading teams!

GUITAR CLASS

GRADES: 3-7
TUITION: $55.00                                     
SESSION: II or III
                 
This course builds essential skills for playing acoustic guitar, including melody, chords, and scales.  Students will perform solo and ensemble arrangements from a variety of musical genres.  The student must own (or have regular access to) an acoustic or classical guitar (electric guitars will be accepted too). Materials needed: acoustic or classical guitar, a medium pick, pencil, folder or binder, and notebook paper.  A guitar tuner and metronome is recommended, but not required.


JAZZ JAM                                               
TEACHER:  Mr. Ohlsen
GRADES:  5-7 ONLY
TUITION:  $55.00                                    
SESSION:  I

Jazz Jam is open to students currently enrolled in the Cadet, Concert or Symphonic Bands and is designed for students who have had little or no experience in playing jazz music. (Fifth grade students must be comfortable enough on their instrument to read basic jazz music-Call Mr. Tedeschi for a recommendation.) 

Through an ensemble approach, we will learn and review the basic jazz styles.  During their experience, students will be exposed to various jazz styles through listening, performance, and basic improvisation techniques.  

Instrumentation is open to all Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Baritone, Flute, Clarinet, Piano (must have at least 2 years playing experience), and bass guitar (by recommendation only), guitar (by recommendation only) and drum set (by recommendation only).  Drummers must be currently taking drum set lessons and be able to sustain a simple beat.  We will also prepare for a short performance at the end of the three week session.





JR. HIGH SYMPHONIC ENSEMBLE

GRADES:  6 -7
TUITION:  $55.00                                    
SESSION:  II

This course is open to students currently enrolled in the Concert or Symphonic Band who will be entering Symphonic Band or Wind Ensemble at Lakeview in the fall.  This course is designed to keep the Advancing Band students in playing shape.  Students will be exposed to exciting new music and advanced playing techniques to prepare them for Band in Seventh or Eighth grade.  If the instrumentation allows, there will be a short performance to culminate the three week program.  This is a great way to keep your child playing on a regular basis through the first part of the summer.


INTRO TO CONCERT BAND

Session:  III

This course is open to students currently enrolled in the Cadet Band who will be entering Concert Band or Symphonic Band at Lakeview in the fall.  This course is designed to keep the Cadet Band student in playing shape.  Students will be exposed to exciting new music and playing techniques to prepare them for the Concert Band in Sixth Grade.  We will also prepare for a short performance at the end of the three weeks to present to parents and friends.

This week in music...

6th Grade: Musical Era Project

The students have been researching composers from musical era's such as the Renaissance, Baroque, and Classical Age.   The students will present their visual and oral presentation with their group members on Monday and Tuesday.  This project is worth 100 points.  60% of the grade is for the students individual research and 40% for the visual and oral group portion. 

Later this week, they will begin their next unit on the Instruments of the Orchestra. 

7th Grade: TV AD Project
The students are beginning the TV Advertisement Project.  Each student or pair of students will create a 30 second commercial using pictures, text, a song they will compose in class using our new software (MixCraft), and Windows Movie Maker to help it all come to life.  We will watch the TV advertisements next Tuesday in class!  (30 point project)

8th Grade: World Music Project
The students will continue to present their World Music Projects.  The students researched the music and culture of a country of their choosing and put together an electronic and oral presentation for the class.  (100 point project)

Later this week, they will begin a until on Blues and Jazz Music.



Spring Musical
Our Spring Musical, State Fair, will be performed on May 15 & 16 at 7:00pm in the Lakeview gym.  Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students/children.  Tickets will be on sale at the door!
