Welcome to 2nd Semester Music!

Our first unit will be on components of RHYTHM. The students will be able to identify rhythms and meter by ear, compose their own rhythms and perform on instruments throughout this unit. 7th and 8th grade students will learn how to read and identify rhythms in complex and compound time signatures as well. There will be a unit test on Friday, February 7. We will review in class on Thursday by taking a "practice test" that can double as a study guide.

An overview of the music curriculum and expectations can be found on each grade level file cabinet!

Welcome Back & Happy New Year!

I hope everyone had an extra long and extra fun winter break with their families!  I'm excited to delve into some cool music projects to end the 1st semester.

6th Grade:  Composing Project (using the 7 elements of Art)
The students were assigned a famous work of art.  First the students will analyze their work (color, texture, line, etc).  Then, they will compose a song to accompany their work of art using Super Duper Music Looper.  Next week, the students will present their analysis and composition to the class.

Some famous works of art that serve as their inspiration are:
American Gothic by Grant Wood
Two Dancers on Stage by Edgar Degas
Guernica by Pablo Picasso
Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh
Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci
The Persistence of Memory by Salvador Dali

And Many More...

7th and 8th Grade:
The students are beginning their TV Advertisement Project.  Each student will create a 30 second commercial using pictures, text, a song they will compose in class, and Windows Movie Maker to help it all come to life.  We will watch the TV advertisements next week in class!  (30 point project)
